Today's versions that we see are more toned down and don't appeal to heart as much as it used to. ![]() I still remember reading an article in autocar, that had a modded 1.5L 1st gen city with a turbo and it smoked all cars in it's segment (0-100 in 7ish seconds). Enthusiasts would rather take a decision to own a car that appeals more to their heart though.īut this is what happens when you want to please all, rather than doing what you are best at. City is a wonderfully neutral car to own, and will have appeal to head rather than heart. performance figures (see what Mahindra did with their XUV7OO diesel and petrol engines), or a laundry list of features that offers everything in the segment and then some more. The cars must have something that is unique for the buyer - e.g. ![]() VW, Skoda and Hyundai have a fire cracker of engine (1.5 Turbo petrol) matched with DSG/DCT transmissions, which make their cars more engaging to drive. Taking a leaf from what makes cars aspirational today - performance and kit. ![]() NVH levels are higher (not that I mind the beautiful iVTEC roar, but the road noise could be contained) stupid cost cutting in places like: lane assist camera only on left? why not on right side? every other car with lane assist camera has it on both sides music system - it's average at it's best and definitely room for improvement The highway handling at speeds above 100KMPH isn't confidence inspiring, the wallowing suspension takes out all the fun and the car doesn't ride flat as a sedan is expected to. The only after market stuff that I have in my car are dashcam and 3M mats Poor tyres - but could be replaced, I nit pick here since I'm someone who keeps their car in factory conditions without any aftermarket stuff. Why can't honda put a better gear box in the car at this price-point? Does honda make any other automatic gear box other than CVTs? test drove the CVT and although it's super smooth, with paddle shifters thrown in, it'll never appeal to enthusiasts the way VW/Skoda DSG's do. missing basic features such as wireless android auto/car play infotainment - compares very poorly with what others have to offer now. no DSG blues to worry about, simple machinery that delivers everytime you need it to You simply can't go wrong with honda city. nifty features: place to hold the phone near hand brake, car locks itself as I walk away and I never have to guess if I locked it or not, lane assist camera on left side - I can't imagine living without it in BLR traffic where every biker has to cut me off as soon as I give a turn signal Reliability - touch wood, never gave up on me despite all the abuses that Indian roads throw at it Engine - it's an excellent NA engine and iVTEC puts a smile on my face every time I rev it in 2nd and 3rd gears beautiful styling in and out, practicality in the cabin - never had complaints about space in the cabin, with 5 full size adults, and the boot is humongous even for people who pack heavy. As an owner of 5th Gen City (Petrol ZX MT), I believe I can throw in some comments from my experience of past 2.5 years.
